What is WAAR?

WAAR - Wild Atlantic Adventure Race, is for both the seasoned and experienced participant, to compete and challenge their own times and targets. 

With the aim of the event being; we should all try get involved in some physical activity which encourages more positive mental health,

and to bring an early boost to the local economy by attracting people to the area over the weekend.  

WAAR offers four different categories;
- Full WAAR Route, 
- Full Route Team (4 person or 2 person
- Sprint 

- Duathlon

- WAAR Beag

Sub-Tech Contracts Ltd

We are delighted to announce that local business Sub-Tech Contracts Ltd have come along as main sponsors of WAAR 2026. 

Sub-Tech was founded by John Cannon in 2008 and has grown to one of the UK’s leading civil engineering contractors. Working from their head office in London Sub-Tech offers services in four key areas of civil engineering: tunnelling, underpinning, drainage, and hard landscaping. 

 

We would like to sincerely thank John and Sarah Cannon for giving so generously back to the local area.  

Caisleáin Óir Hotel

Set In the heart of the Donegal Gaeltacht Caisleáin Óir Hotel has established itself as a vibrant family run Donegal Hotel, with an emphasis on good quality food and a Comfortable Guest Environment.


Located one mile from Donegal Airport and a short drive from Clg Naomh Muire, Caisleain Oir Hotel are delighted to be involved once again as Entertainment HQ for WAAR.

 

Their modern function room will host the much anticipated WAAR prize giving evening with music and disco afterwards.

Caisleáin Óir offer an early breakfast, available on the morning of WAAR, contact the hotel for details, booking is required.

National Adventure Race Series

Once again WAAR will take part in the National Adventure Race Series, under the Sport Series. 

The Solo Adventure Race series includes running, cycling and kayaking in some of Ireland’s most challenging and picturesque terrain. Athletes gain points from achieving a top 50 placing, with their best 5 scores counting towards their final Series total.
